Overview of the STIHL MSA 60 C-B Cordless Chainsaw
Primarily designed for domestic use, this versatile chainsaw weighs just 2.5 kg, without the battery. It has a bar length of 30 cm (12 inches), chain speed of 13.2 m/s, and is fitted with a potentiometer function for infinitely variable speed control.
The MSA 60’s slim ¼-inch P PM3 saw chain ensures very high cutting performance, while low vibration levels make it comfortable to use, improving the accuracy of your work.
The E C Engine
Light in weight and with a compact design, the MSA 60 CB’s engine is both low maintenance and highly efficient.
Not only does this engine fully optimise the power from the battery and have a very long service life, but with a sound power level of 91 dB(A), it’s extremely quiet too.
STIHL’s Quick Chain Tensioning
Thanks to STIHL’s Quick Chain Tensioning, you can quickly and easily tighten, loosen or replace the MSA 60’s chain through an adjusting wheel, without the need for tools.
A right turn on the wheel increases tension on the saw chain, while a left turn loosens it. (The guide bar is automatically secured once you tighten the sprocket cover.)
Quick-Stop Super Chain Brake
Another great feature of this cordless chainsaw is its Quick-Stop Super Chain Brake function, which allows the chain brake to be activated from the rear handle. The chain is stopped in seconds if there is sufficiently strong kickback, the front hand guard is moved, or when the operator lets go of the rear handle.
STIHL is the only chainsaw manufacturer to offer this feature, which works in any operating position. It clearly increases your safety, particularly when carrying out tasks that require frequently stopping the machine.
Soft-Grip Rear Handle with Ergo Lever
The STIHL MSA 60 CB Cordless Chainsaw is designed with a soft-grip rear control handle, including Ergo Lever, making it particularly comfortable to use.
In fact, you’ll find that the handle’s soft material actually improves your grip on the chainsaw, particularly in wet conditions, ensuring consistently safe working practice.

I already owned the Stihl cordless lawn mower and leaf blower that used the same AK20 battery as the MSA 60 C so when I needed a small chainsaw it was logical to get this one body only and save almost £100 by battery sharing. I’ve owned several much larger petrol chainsaws in the past and was realistic this cordless model would be nothing like as powerful. It was purchased mainly to do one job of cutting the roots to remove a garden tree then cutting up the tree for firewood. The performance of this small light saw was beyond my expectations and completed the task easily. I have since used it for cutting large timbers when making a pergola and it makes quick work of a 100mm fence post or 150×47 joist. The cut is nice and clean too. Just one bit of advice… buy a spare chain or sharpening file as it’s even more important with a cordless you don’t try and power through with a blunt blade.
